Benefits of hiring a doula

39%

Caesarean Decrease

With a doula you have a 39% decrease in needing a Cesarean.

15%

Spontaneous Vaginal Birth

You are more likely to start labor on your and your baby’s timeline.

41 min

Shorter Labor

Labor is like a marathon! Having continuous support reduces the length of labor by 41 minutes on average.

Having a doula also leads to less interventions like pain medication, use of Pitocin, epidurals, vacuum or forceps-assisted births, and Cesareans. Our bodies are truly powerful and amazing and having someone in your corner who believes in you makes all the difference.

Studies have also shown that there is a 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience which in turn contributes to maternal mental health.

What kind of support does a doula provide?

Doulas provide emotional, physical, and informational support. This can look a few different ways and this is unique to each labor.

Physical support might be soothing touch, holding your hand, fanning, applying warm or cold compresses, assisting with water therapy (shower or tub).

Emotional support may include words of encouragement, reassurance, and work through any fears. The goal is to make you feel cared for and empowered throughout and after your birth.

Informational support may look like guiding you through labor, suggesting relaxation, movement or positioning techniques, helping you find evidence-based information and even helping your partner understand what’s going on with labor.
